Tipper Trailers

Tipper trailers, like tipper trucks, are designed for transporting and unloading bulk materials. They are commonly used in construction, agriculture, and other industries. The hydraulic systems on tipper trailers play a crucial role in facilitating the tipping or dumping of the trailer bed. Here are some common hydraulic components and equipment found on tipper trailers:

Hydraulic Power Unit (HPU):

Similar to tipper trucks, tipper trailers are equipped with a hydraulic power unit consisting of a hydraulic pump, reservoir, and other components. The HPU generates hydraulic power for operating various hydraulic functions.

Hydraulic Cylinders:

Hydraulic cylinders on tipper trailers control the movement of the tipping mechanism. These cylinders extend and retract to lift and lower the trailer bed, allowing for easy loading and unloading.

Control Valves:

Hydraulic control valves regulate the flow of hydraulic fluid to the cylinders, determining the speed and direction of the tipping action. The valves are typically operated by the trailer driver using a control mechanism.

Hydraulic Tanks:

The hydraulic tank (reservoir) stores hydraulic oil needed for the operation of the hydraulic system, ensuring a continuous supply of oil to the pump and cylinders.

Pneumatic Controls:

Some tipper trailers may use pneumatic controls in conjunction with hydraulic systems. Pneumatic controls can assist in managing the release and engagement of the tipping mechanism.

Hydraulic Hoses and Fittings:

High-pressure hydraulic hoses and fittings connect various hydraulic components, ensuring a secure and leak-free flow of hydraulic fluid throughout the system.

Safety Features:

Tipper trailers often incorporate safety features in the hydraulic system, such as pressure relief valves to prevent overpressurization, check valves to maintain hydraulic pressure, and locking mechanisms to secure the trailer bed during transport.

Electric or Manual Controls:

The hydraulic controls for tipping can be electrically operated or manual, depending on the trailer's design. Electric controls provide precise and convenient operation.

Hydraulic Filters:

Hydraulic filters are installed in the system to remove contaminants and maintain the cleanliness of the hydraulic fluid, preventing damage to hydraulic components.

Hydraulic Pump:

The hydraulic pump converts mechanical power from the towing vehicle into hydraulic power, providing the force needed to lift the trailer bed.

Proper maintenance of the hydraulic system is crucial to ensure the reliable operation of tipper trailers. Regular checks, fluid changes, and attention to hydraulic components contribute to the longevity and efficiency of the hydraulic system on tipper trailers.
